Clever Holiday Packing

Planning an escape to warmer climes? Then you may well be re-acquainting yourselves with your summer wardrobe and although it is always exciting rediscovering old favourites which have been hibernating over the chilly winter months, you might also feel overwhelmed by the trauma of wondering how you can fit all that into the airlines baggage restrictions!!  holiday packing

Here is a sample capsule wardrobe, to give you over 30 different looks out of a few key pieces, saving you excess baggage charges, in fact we promise you could fit all of this into hand luggage 🙂

The key to the Capsule Wardrobe is knowing your colour pattern so all your best colours mix and match effortlessly.  Choose a couple of neutral colours as a base and then add accents. Book a Colour Confidence Consultation to find out YOUR Colour pattern.

  • Linen trousers or coloured Capri/cigarette pants – always chic (even when you haven’t got round to leg waxing or fake tanning!) & versatile. Choose a pair in one of this season’s key colours – try cobalt blue, orange or floral to bring your wardrobe bang up to date J
  • Skirt – ensure you choose a style & fabric that flatters your bodyshape & for those of you who have had a consultation, remember to think where the hemline cuts.
  • Dress – whether you choose a shirtdress, a tunic style or a wrap – don’t just see this as a stand alone piece – remember your layering – over trousers, vest tops, shirts or under cardis, pashminas.  Don’t forget different shoes & accessories will maximise this one garment!
  • Pashmina/Wrap – Our top tip for the summer. There are loads of these around in fab summer colours and prints.  Incredibly flexible, inexpensive failsafe with many uses, here are just a few

As a scarf ( tied to suit your bodyshape, bounce your colours and pull an outfit together)

As a shrug ( to cover up those bingo wings, whilst keeping you cosy and looking chic)

As a belt (slung to enhance your bodyshape),

As a skirt(tie at a length most flattering to you)

As a sarong (looks great over swimwear)

Bonus points are – a blanket for those long journeys, it’s easy to pack and if rolled correctly takes up no packing space!

  • Vest tops – buy several in your accent colours – an inexpensive, quick & easy way to add colour & impact to your summer wardrobe.  Try layering them to give you optimum variety.
  • Shoes – For a daytime casual look there is a wide choice of flip flops or gladiator sandals. Try a pair of wedges, they can carry you from day in to night if chosen wisely.  Choose either a neutral colour (nude are great for lengthening the legs!) for maximum wearability or to get on trend, make a statement with a bright block or even multi coloured  pair.
  • Swimwear – If the thought of de-layering to this level is giving you sleepless nights, let us help you. As masters of optical illusion, we can give you all the advice you need about the most flattering cuts, patterns and colours for each and every one of you.  Pssst – if you feel you have an urgent swimwear dilemma – drop us an email or post us a comment on facebook and we will do our best to help.
  • Accessories – As all of you who knows us are aware, we are major accessory fans.  An absolutely fabulous way to expand your capsule wardrobe even further.

Look Cool, when the Heat is on

you look coolWhen the sun shines, either at home or away, we love to see all the gorgeous summer outfits and colours out there.

But we can’t help but notice that as the layers come off, some people  also shed their style sense! Black knickers under a white dress, spanx the same length as your dress so they show when you bend over, boring black! (Come on the sun is out!).

So here is our quick guide to looking cool, even when it’s hot 🙂

Sunblock There is nothing worse (not to mention the health risks) than unsightly red stripes on white skin – no outfit can look good against that background!

Our top tip is use Once a Day Suncream (try Piz Buin or P20) that way you can cover up all over as soon as you come out the shower in the morning and you don’t get suncream all over your clothes. These are on offer at Sainsburys and Semichem at the moment.

Nude, seamless knickers Even white can show through. Remember to check from all angles in a full length mirror before you leave the house.

Bra straps can be a bit of a bind and spoil the look of your strappy top – again try nude, clear, colours that tone with your outfit or you can buy fancy ones from diamante to daisy- let us know if you want stockists details.

Ditch the black – it’s summer. Or at least try adding some accents – a necklace or brooch could brighten up your look. After all, “Colours are the smiles of nature”

PRETTY PASTELS OR NEON BRIGHTS

  • Keep colours not in your palette, away from your face – try coloured trousers or skirts.
  • If you are not brave enough to wear head to toe colour, add pops of colour with accessories – bold bags, necklaces and scarves will ensure you look on trend.
  • To keep your look chic – select your best neutral and team it with one colourful piece.

WHITE a summer staple – A Friend or Foe?

A fab, fresh look for summer. But remember, pure white close to the face is not flattering for all – it can leave you looking washed out.

Remember, light colours will draw attention and widen, so be careful on which parts of your body you wear them to create balance.

Travel in Style

travel in styleYou don’t need to leave glamour at home when you are jetting off on holiday. Have you, like us, noticed an abundance of casual “comfy” travel gear at the check in desk?  We know that when travelling everyone suffers from the chill of air conditioning, the swelling of feet as well as waistlines, but you would never see celebrities such as Victoria Beckham looking dishevelled as she steps off the plane. We know she has an army of assistants to achieve this, but as stylists we also know that we can all travel in style and still feel comfortable – it doesn’t have to be one or the other, they can go hand in hand.

Think fabric – choose something that will give you comfort, so nothing too restrictive or stiff – try a linen blend (comfort without the creases!) or a t-shirt material. So with this in mind, stick to styles that flatter you.

Think layers – you go through variable temperatures when travelling – so fine layers work better than a shapeless, chunky sweatshirt which will hide your hard earned pre holiday figure 😉 Try taking a pashmina – they take up hardly any space (you can wear it as a scarf or tie it on your bag), don’t crease and even double up as a cover for sleeping children or other halves!

Think shoes – we have no idea why people naturally revert to trainers in a travel situation. They can make your feet sweat, are heavy, can be restrictive and tend to not flatter any stylish travel wear!  There are many easy, comfortable and stylish alternatives on the High Street, from M&S to Primark – try canvas pumps, ballet flats or sandals (Remember the Golden No Socks rule!)

None of this is rocket science, but it is easy when you are busy to overlook the obvious – so get your holiday off to a stylish start this year.
