The Business of Style

INTEGRO QUICK GUIDE TO THE BUSINESS OF STYLE

Details, Details…..

As it is in business, attention to detail in the style stakes is crucial. A designer suit teamed with scruffy shoes, for example, will sound warning bells to acute observers who value diligence in their suppliers or employees.

Don’t be a suit, be suitable

More freedom in corporate dress can result in a minefield of confusing choices.  In general, the first rule of successful business dress is to ensure your clothes reflect the company culture. Whatever your working week entails, an understanding of what to wear, when, will subtly position you as an effective and persuasive player.

Groomed to perfection

Even if you workplace adopts a smart casual dress code or Dress Down Fridays, it is always important to make the effort to look professionally polished.

Well kept hair, clean nails, polished shoes, immaculate make up and well pressed clothes all create the impression that you care about your appearance and that this will be reflected in your work. In a time poor business world, this essential aspect must not be underestimated!

The Colour of Money

The key to Image Management is the ability to use non verbal indicators to make the appropriate impression in any given professional situation. There is a wealth of evidence to show that colour in our environment has an impact on our emotions. The correct choice of colours in your presentation can influence the way others perceive you without saying a word.

Don’t be a corporate clone

It pays to stand out from the crowd, so don’t be afraid to express your individuality. Whilst you need to fit the “dress code”, imagination and creativity in your appearance demonstrates that you can apply those characteristics to your work.

Accessorise to reveal individual style and create a focal point, but remember – keep it simple. You don’t have to break the bank – a scarf in the season’s colour or statement brooch can raise your whole outfit. This shows you have your finger on the pulse and move with the times, without compromising your integrity.

Don’t forget …

The way you dress, your grooming and overall personal presentation can instantly present you as a respectable professional who knows what they are doing, knows where they are going, and can be relied upon to deliver.

Fab Focal Points

purple heartWe are all good at focussing on our bad points, but we are firm believers that if you draw attention to the good parts of your body (yes, we all have them!), you will automatically detract attention from those bits you are not so keen on.

An easy way to do this is by using focal points.

A focal point is anything which draws your eye towards it – think: jewellery, belts, scarves, pockets or any detailing.

You can also use colour as a focal point – the eye will be drawn to lighter and brighter colours, so use it accordingly.

So, a top tip is to assess a garment to see where your eye is drawn, then THINK is this a part of my body that I want to draw attention to?

For example, if you want to show off a slim waist – wear a belt to draw attention, or if you want to look taller and slimmer choose a brightly coloured necklace to draw the eye up and in.  Simples 🙂

Mirror: Friend or Foe?

“The only way to truly see yourself is in the reflection of someone else’s eyes.”
~ Voltaire (1694 – 1778)

You may avoid a mirror at all costs, but that doesn’t stop others judging you on your appearance.  We all subconsciously make assumptions on people when we first meet them based on how they look.  So to see yourself through other’s eyes you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror….. What do you see?

A capable, competent business person or someone who is struggling to get through the day.

Answer yourself honestly – Does it represent the true YOU, you want to share with the world?

Personal Image is a powerful tool, which when harnessed, can help you reach your goals.

As Personal Image Consultants we are experts in helping people develop and enhance their personal brand. With failsafe formulas and the clever use of optical illusion we can create your “ideal” mirror image, whatever your lifestyle, budget or time constraints.  So, just like a swan, learn to look calm, controlled and effortless above the water, even if you are paddling frantically below!
